LIDS Emergency Information & Procedures
In the event of a fire
A fire alarm will sound and/or verbal notification will be given. Evacuate the building calmly and immediately. Do not use the elevators. Evacuation maps are posted throughout the lab; please use these to find your nearest exit. If you are the first person to notice smoke or fire, fire alarm pull stations are located by each stairwell. Once the fire alarm is pulled do not attempt to fight the fire. Exit immediately and proceed to an assembly area.
**Please note: all fire alarms should be treated as genuine and should be responded to without waiting for further announcements.**
In the event of a non-fire emergency
You will be notified in one or more of the following ways:
- text message to your cell phone (if you choose to be part of this option)
- LIDS-wide email
- building alarm
- verbal announcement
Please follow the instructions you are given at that time. In many cases you will be asked to evacuate the building. However, there will be some circumstances under which it will be best to remain in place. Again, evacuation maps are posted throughout the lab; please use these to find your nearest exit should you be instructed to leave the building.
Assembly locations for evacuations
Upon evacuating the building, please meet in one of the following locations:
Fair weather: In front of building 34, Vassar Street entrance (Alternate fair weather location: Behind buildings 34 & 36)
Inclement weather: Building 36 lobby
(Alternate inclement weather location: Building 26 lobby)
We will do everything we can to keep you safe in the event of an emergency. However, your safety is ultimately up to you – it is your responsibility to follow emergency instructions when they are given.
If you are disabled or otherwise feel you may need assistance with receiving emergency communications or evacuating the building, please let Debbie Deng know immediately so that she can make proper contingency plans to accommodate you.
